Established in 1866 as an artillery depot and torpedo workshop, the company's history continued with the founding of MaK - Maschinen Kiel AG in 1948. With the renaming of Krupp MaK to Caterpillar Motoren GmbH & Co KG in 1997, it became the headquarters for all medium-speed diesel, gas, and dual-fuel engines. Since August 2022, the division has been operating successfully as an independent company under the name ProMachining.
The gradual development of the company led to the next chapter in its history: the company changed its name from ProMachining and is now known as Kieler Maschinenwerke GmbH. This now also makes visible to the outside world what the company has stood for for years: reliable mechanical engineering expertise from Kiel, with strong roots and clear positioning – an industrial brand that builds on experience and is focused on the future.
